The Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative (WICCI) is a registered charity. As a charity we have developed a unique partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support to address needs and provide support for specific issues faced by cancer patients and their families throughout the Western Isles.
We offer a wide variety of services – our WICCI Social Fund, our range of complementary therapies, group activities and counselling services through our WICCI Centre in Stornoway and WICCI office in Balivanich, our WICCI Care Box scheme and access to support, information and a place to drop by and have a coffee and a blether about what is happening with you at that time.

We support individuals financially with grants of up to £500 per year to those affected by cancer in the Western Isles through our Social Fund. These grants can be used to support costs such as; basic living expenses, travel costs (over and above those supported by Patient Travel) and specialist equipment or support required as a result of a cancer diagnosis, treatment or recovery. We have supported over 930 individuals since the WICCI Social Fund was established in 2018, distributing around £500,000 in that time.
Individuals should get in touch with the WICCI office to determine eligibility for the Social Fund or speak to your Macmillan Nurse or GP or anyone else involved in your care. You will then be asked to complete an Application Form which will ask for specific information on your current situation and the circumstances for which you require assistance. You will be asked to provide information of your current care or treatment.
Your application will then be assessed by the WICCI Office staff and sent to our Trustees. Please be assured that all information is treated in the strictest confidence, and assessments of funding are presented to the WICCI Trustees anonymously.
Get in touch if you have any issues or financial burdens arising from a cancer diagnosis or treatment.
